The Parenting Patch: Where Parents Grow is a website about parenting including a blog, news, reviews, recipes, and information including baby sign language and a week by week pregnancy calendar that was founded in September 2011 by Heather and James, a husband and wife team who were soon-to-be first-time parents. The mission of The Parenting Patch is to share the parenting experience with preconception, conception, pregnancy, birth, and parenting with other parents, bloggers, and other interested bystanders. Hot topics are widely discussed.
Heather Johnson is a writer, librarian, linguist, amateur photographer, wife, and mother who is supported by her wonderful husband. She earned a BA in English studies with a minor in creative writing in May 2007, MS in library and information science in May 2009, and MS in English studies with an emphasis in linguistics in December 2011.
James Johnson is a writer, editor, entreprenuer, husband, and father who is supported by his wonderful wife. He earned a BS in communications with a minor in pre-law in May 2004.
Heather and James are the proud parents of Poppy, their daughter who was born in December 2011, and Will, their son who was born in October 2014. Poppy enjoys reading books, visiting the library, doing school time, watching Curious George, and playing with her baby brother. Will enjoys nursing, playing the iPad, helping his mommy, watching Curious George, and playing with his big sister. Heather and James are also pet parents to Princess, a stray-turned-house cat; Espen, a Shih Tzu; Frosty, a Maltese; Kenobi, a Schnauzer Whippet mix; and Pumpkin, a rescued kitten.
The Parenting Patch is pro-breastfeeding, pro-vaccination, pro-homebirth, pro-co-sleeping/pro-bed-sharing, anti-ultrasound, and anti-circumcision. All other viewpoints (expect pro-circumcision and anti-vaccine) are welcomed. The Parenting Patch encourages respectable debate and discussion.
